Ongoing: Evaluation of calf barn ventilation and its impact on calf health, grow
Funding source: NNYADP, 2021
Principal investigators: Casey Havekes and Lindsay Ferlito
The objectives of the project are to asses and troubleshoot ventilation systems (mechanical and/or natural) and calf health pre-weaned calf barns in Northern NY. This will help NNY producers better understand the importance of investing in and properly managing calf barn ventilation systems. Calf health assessments will be conducted every other month from the summer through the winter of 2021, and each barn will be fogged in the summer and winter to observe the ventilation system in these seasons. Each farm will receive a report showing their data as well as the benchmarked data from the 15 participating NNY farms.
